Is it proper and legal to use Amateur Radio for the following:
1: My church (non-profit) is having a picnic. Can a few of us HAM's who
belong use our HT's (at low level, simplex of course) to help coordinate
the event?

Yes you can, assuming your church is not paying you to act as its
radio operator.

If my HT had an extended tx and I had use of a comercial freq. through my
business (We have a repeater set up around 452 mhz), could I use my HT
to communicate through the repeater (legally)??
If no...Why not??
As long as I don't tx out of bounds, have the correct PL set- what's the
harm?

I have an ICOM W21AT and it's great. With a keyboard mod., it can
receive from 50MHz - 999MHz. Will work as a cross-band repeater, you

USED HF & 6m RIG PRICE SURVEY
22 Apr 1994 Version
Here is a list of actual transactions involving buying
and selling of used HF amateur radios.
I have absolutely no affiliation with any ham-radio-related
business. Rigs are sorted by maker, model, and price. All
transactions were made within the past three years. I welcome
any additional responses; please indicate maker and model of
your used rig, date bought/sold, how sold (Usenet, retailer,
on air, private, etc.), price, condition, and any accessories
or options. This survey is limited to used HF and 6m rigs only.
For prices on new rigs, consult the AES catalog, or call a
ham retailer for a quote. ("List" prices are usually much
higher than actual quoted prices.)

I just got an HTX-202 myself. A couple of days ago I made a J-Pole
antenna using the 2 meter dimensions found in the "Plumber's Delight"
article in the April 1992 73 magazine (p16+). The parts cost less
than $6.00 and the antenna works GREAT!!!!! Very easy to build, I
highly recommend this project.
Good Luck -

Nope, sorry it's my fault. Every time I align one of my radios,
propagation dies. The last really poor propagation coincided with
aligning my R4-T4X. This time I got my TR4 back on the air and
realigned it. Both times I thought I'd screwed things up since I
couldn't hear any signals better than about S3-4.
Wonder how the Sun's corona knows what I'm doing? Perhaps the next time
I align a rig, I'll post a major geomagnetic storm warning. Sure prop's
getting better. It's been several weeks since I've worked on any of my
radios!

I can relate to this after witnessing several serious traffic accidents
while traveling on IR70 between Dayton, OH and Washington DC. Either no
monitors repeaters or wants to help, except on a rare occassion. Out of
approximately 7 accidents reported, I made one contact via Ham radio for
help.

What we have here is a classic example of the BS politics that dominates this
country today. That is, the "Monday Night Quarterbacks" calling the shots
after the incident to assign blame for the failure to secure their radio
networks. My opion is Boyer saw a situation requiring clear headed thinking
weighed and executed his options in methodical manner to a successful
conclusion. However, the petty local and federal bureaucrats proably with
nothing better to do than screw with someone saw a golden oportunity to
promote their careers by creating a mountain of paperwork that in the end
will accomplish nothing more than to prosecute someone who tried to help
another person in an emergency.
Maybe these bureaucratic idiots might feel a little differently if their
lives were on the line next. Maybe the person who encounters them might
say well...I cannot call for help because I will lose my license....so
I guess I might as well walk 10 miles to my car drive to the nearest
town and get help...hey bud I ll be back in about 4 hours or so.
This is a prime example of how America is burying itself in paperwork and
civil litagation to the point society will cease to function from fear
of prosecution.

I have always found that when my TV picture on Channel 2 looks bad, 6

the Milwaukee area or from across Lake Michigan) beating with our own WBBM

50 MHz neighborhood.
